Kolkata: Junior information and cultural affairs minister Indranil Sen on Friday announced the start of enrolment process for the Biswa Bangla Sharad Samman. The event, to be hosted by the state, will award the best Durga pujas in India and overseas. Community puja organisers have been asked to apply for nomination of their pujas and the best of the lot will even be showcased at the Red Road immersion carnival.
“Community puja organisers can enrol online through http:www.biswabanglasharadsamman.com or via Facebook and Twitter,” Sen added. Last year, the state awarded 59 pujas in Kolkata and 173 from the rural belt. Sixteen pujas from other states and six from overseas were felicitated.
The awards will be for various categories, including best puja, best theme, eco-friendly puja and best branding of Biswa Bangla. The organisers must enrol by September 14 and the awards will be declared on Shashti, which will fall on September 26.
The applicants also need to provide details of their pandals, lighting, idols, design and the name of the maker.Apart from the city puja organisers, there will be awards for 22 districts in three categories -best puja, best pandal and best idol.
