Bihar announces 50% reservation in Govt contract


Patna: With the Bihar assembly elections in due in September-October, the Bihar cabinet under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken several decisions, including 50% reservation to scheduled castes/tribes, backward and economically backward castes and backward caste women in all government contracts up to Rs 15 lakh.

After the cabinet meeting, principal secretary of cabinet secretariat department Shishir Sinha said that people belonging to SCs would get upto 16%, STs 1%, EBCs 18%, BCs 12% and BC women 3% in the 50% quota in contracts.

In another major decision, the government has decided to do away with the mandatory 75% attendance of students in schools for the year 2015-16. Now, the government school students can avail the benefits of merit scholarship including cycle and ‘poshak’ yojanas for this year without serving any condition.
