Kolkata: Months ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Congress has got a huge boost in West Bengal. As per a Times Now report, 2,000 ground-level minority leaders of Trinamool Congress, including vice president of TMC minority cell, Shakeel Ansari, have joined the Congress.
Not only the TMC, Muslim workers from the BJP and CPI(M) too joined the Congress today, taking the total number of joiners to the grand old party to 2,500. This is significant as the Muslim community in West Bengal has more than 27 per cent dedicated vote share.
Malda, Murshidabad, and North Dinajpur districts in West Bengal have Muslim majority votes.
After dumping Mamata Banerjee’s party, Shakeel Ansari told Times Now that there is no democracy in TMC.
If sources are to be believed, the West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC), Congress’ state unit, has had meetings with party chief Rahul Gandhi and suggested that they want to fight the upcoming polls without the support of TMC. They have also suggested that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi should not participate in the ‘federal front’ rally called by Mamata Banerjee on January 19 in Kolkata.
