Big Relief For Sambia Sohrab, Court Rules Out Murder Charges


Kolkata: Big relief for Sambia Sohrab in Red road run over case in 2016. Bankshall court on Wednesday pronounced verdict on that case and rules out murder charges against Sambia Sohrab.

Justice Mousumi Bhattacharya announced the verdict and will pronounce punishment within an hour. Sambia found guilty at 307 IPS and 427 IPS act.

City sessions court had framed charges of murder and attempt to murder against Sambia Sohrab, the young man driving the Audi Q7 that ran over an airforce corporal supervising a parade rehearsal on Casuarina Avenue two weeks before Republic Day in 2016.

Sambia’s father Mohammad Sohrab and friends Noor Alam, alias Johnny, and Shahnawaz Khan, alias Shanu, were acquitted in the case. Police had charged them with harbouring a criminal and criminal conspiracy. Earlier Judge Sankar Mani Tripathi said the evidence collected and submitted by the police “failed to substantiate the charges” against the trio.
