Bharati Ghosh was known to be a close aide of Mamata Banerjee. She used to call her ‘Jangalmahal’s mother’. Since then, she has been the centre of target, as Ghosh says. It led to her voluntary retirement from her work. But why did such a thing happen?
In an interview to Aaj Tak. Bharati Ghosh said, “The by-election to the Sabang constituency happened neutrally. Despite of the TMC candidate’s win, BJP’s vote share increased in comparison to 2016. After this, the then DG state police asked me to not remain the police super of Midnapore anymore.” The then DG was Surajit Kar Puryakayastha, who was close to Mamata Banerjee. By not following DG’s instructions, it let her toh her fate, as claimed by Ghosh.
Was Bharati Ghosh asked to take sides? On this, the former IPS officer said, “As per the conditions of the job, many things cannot be said. But how can the protector of law give an unlawful decision?” Attacking CM Mamata, she said, “I could not become her puppet. So I resigned from my job.”
Following this, an extortion case was registered against her, as alleged by Ghosh. Her husband MD Raju is presently in the CID custody.
