New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee conferred the second highest civilian award ‘Padma Vibhushan’ on Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Padma Vibhushan was also conferred on Malur Ramaswamy Srinivasan for his contribution to science and engtneering and jurist K.K. Venugopal for public affairs. Noted Assamese film director Jahnu Barua was awarded the Padma Bhushan along with Mr Bachchan.
The award ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan was attended by PM Narendra Modi and many key Union Ministers.
Apart from Padma Vibhushan, the president also conferred awards in other categories namely Padma Bhushan and Padma Sri.
Bollywood maestro Dilip Kumar was also conferred Padma Vibhushan, but was unable to collect the award personally due to his ailment.
