Kolkata: In yet another reshuffle in the ranks of West Bengal police, 17 IPS officers have been transferred on Monday.
Bidhannagar Commissioner of Police (CP) Javed Shamim, who had done a commendable job during the assembly polls in a bid to thwart any attempt to influence the voting process, has been also transferred. His position as the new CP of Bidhannagar will be taken over by Gyanbanta Singh.
Several other officers have been transferred too. Tanmay Roy Choudhury will replace Niraj Singh as the new CP of Barrackpore. In Asansol, the new CP will be Lakshminarayan Mina replacing Siddhinath Gupta. In Siliguri, Cheling Simik Lepcha would replace Manoj Verma as the new CP. The responsibility of the CP of Jhargram ,Bharati Singh, has been increased. She would take the responsibility of West Medinipore as its new CP.
During the assembly polls, Rajeev Kumar was removed by the Election Commission from his Kolkata police chief post and was replaced by the then ADG (CID) Soumen Mitra. But Rajeev Kumar was given back his old post by Mamata Banerjee’s government once they reclaimed power after massive victory in Bengal.
