Kolkata: A cultural outfit in north Howrah has been demanding Bharat Ratna for Kishore Kumar for the “inspiration he provides to several national and international players through his songs” before they step out to perform .
According to TOI report ,fans of Kishore Kumar and members of the association will bring out a procession on his birthday from Howrah to Esplanade.
Trinamool leader, Laxmi Ratan Shukla, the convenor of The Salkia Kishore Kumar Memorial Cultural Association, said the outfit has written to the central government to posthumously award Bharat Ratna to Kishore Kumar for the array of work he has done.
Shukla, who debuted for India in 1999, also said that most Indian players would listen to Kishore Kumar songs to sooth their nerves before they stepped on to the field.
Shukla, who is also a minister of state, has announced that he would set up a music academy dedicated to the legendary singer from his area development fund.
The demand for Bharat Ratna for Kishore Kumar is not new. In 2016, a social media petition attracted more than 15,000 people, who joined the movement online to support the cause.
