Kolkata: Day after the arrest of CPI (ML) leader Alik Chakraborty in Bhubaneswar, a local court granted four-day transit remand. He will be produced in Baruipur court on June 5.
Alik Chakraborty will be brought back to Kolkata on Friday night from Bhubaneswar. He was arrested on Thursday from a private hospital in Bhubaneswar following a joint raid by Odisha and West Bengal police. He was produced before the court of the Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM).
He managed to give a slip to West Bengal police and was evading arrest since last two years. He was the man behind a massive protest and unrest in Bhangar in West Bengal over the acquisition of land for a Power Grid project.
Chakraborty, a politburo member of CPI (ML) (Red Star), was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in the capital city.
According to police, at least 70 cases are pending against him at different police stations in the neighbouring state.
