Bengal’s ‘Kanyashree Scheme’ Emerges Victorious At The UN


The Hague: West Bengal adds another feather to its cap. The State government’s Kanyashree scheme beat 552 other projects across the world to win the best Public Service Scheme. The United Nations hailed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s brainchild as exemplary.

An emotionally charged Mamata was her usual self when she received the prize in the presence of several top world leaders on Friday.

Mamata has always proclaimed her dream project as a successful venture. Started in 2013, this scheme aimed to elevate awareness of the girl child’s education from the state’s diverse areas to the city.

Earlier, UNESCO had also awarded the scheme and lauded the efforts of the government.

Speaking on the Public Service Day, Mamata traced back to Abraham Lincoln’s iconic speech which identified the Republic as ‘Government of the people, by the people, for the people’ She urged a interactive and liberal relation between the government and the people. She highlighted how her pet project Kanyashree has extended assistance to lakhs of female students. Centre’s 100 Days scheme also sprung up in the minutes long speech.
