Bengalis Bid Goodbye To Ma Durga With Sidur Khela

Kolkata: Vijaya Dashami is an impotant festival and the last day of Bengali’s Durga Puja celebrations. This day marks the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasur.

If we talk about festivals then we talk about love and togetherness we think about prosper and an overspread joy around. But this day brings sadness in our hearts amidst the merriment of Durga Puja. This day marks the day when goddess Durga leaves earth to return back to Kailash to her husband Lord Shiva.

All the pandals mark this day with devi – baran and then with the famous ritual of sidur khela. Baghbazar sarbojonin puja is famous for this ritual where women from all over Kolkata visit the pandal to take part in it and smear vermillion on one another. Sobhabazaar Rajbari follows this ritual too. It has a custom of flying over nilkanthi bird, but since the court banned it, they have sculpted bird-idols to maintain the tradition this year. Celebrities even celebrate this day. Mullik barir pujo is a renowned puja.

Sadness is in the air as we are preparing to bid goodbye to the Goddess for atleast one year.
