Kolkata: Proclaimed Bengali singer Jatileshwar Mukherjee passed away at a city Hospital in Kolkata on Thursday. He was 82 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
He was admitted in the hospital on December 6 but his condition deteriorated during the last few days and he breathed his last today. He died of multiple organ failure.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the death of the singer terming it a big loss for the music world. The body of late singer would be kept at Rabindra Sadan tomorrow and cremation will take place later in the day.
“I wished him on his birthday only a week ago. Very sad. Condolences to his family,” the CM said in a message. Mukherjee was conferred with Sangeet Samman Award in 2012 by the state goverment.
Among his popular numbers were E kon sakal, Tomar Sange Dekha Na Hole, Aamar Swapan Kinte Paare and Bondhuya Amar Chokhe Jal Enechhe.
