Bengal Will Stand Beside NRC Victims: Mamata Banerjee

Cooch Behar: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee yet again expressed her anguish over the National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Assam and Modi Government’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padao’ scheme. She was addressing an administrative review meeting at Cooch Behar district on Tuesday, which shares its borders with Assam.

She stated that Bengalis are being driven out of Assam with the help of NRC. She also said that the Modi- Shah pair are doing politics of discrimination.

The CM said, “We do not discriminate between the citizens of Assam and Bengal. We love them both equally. But have you seen, there have been suicides in Assam because of NRC. We are neighbours. Don’t you feel sad? The name of one person is not in the (NRC) list, but names of his wife and children are there. This drove him to commit suicide. ”She said, there are reports of suicides because of NRC.

On the other hand, the Mamata has raised finger at Modi government regarding the insufficiency of money that was allocated for ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ scheme that aimed at higher education for girl-child across the country.

She added, “People are living peacefully in our State. They are living in harmony. But some people cannot tolerate this fact.”

Lok Sabha polls are knocking at the door, and before that the Chief Minister of Bengal has started her district tour. On Tuesday, the State Government Assistance Program was organized at Rash Mela field in Cooch Behar. It is clear from Mamata’s speech that for the TMC’s campaigning of 2019 Lok Sabha polls, TMC will use two major issues of BJP one is -NRC and other are the insufficiency of finance that were allocated for different central government schemes.
