Cooch Behar: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared Cooch Behar a ‘heritage’ town. She was addressing a huge gathering at a government programme from Chakchaka Industrial ground.
“I was going around the town and saw lot of things. I have asked my Chief Secretary to take necessary steps for making it a heritage town. Foundation stone of Nripendra Narayan Medical College has been laid and the project would cost Rs 190 crore. Cooch Behar will produce doctors who would cater to the needs of the town. We have set up Panchanan Barma University, 10 Krishi Bazaar, ITIs, polytechnics, two medical colleges in the district. We have allotted Rs 50 lakh for the development of Cooch Behar stadium. Around Rs 200 crore scholarships would be provided to meritorious students,” said Banerjee.
Residents of Chitmahal will be benefitted as government would be taking necessary steps to improve their condition. Government has decided to give a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of slain jawans. Food minister Jyoti Priya Mullick will receive the last remains of the slain jawans. Government jobs will be provided to the next of kin,” said Banerjee.
CM Mamata lashed out at the Centre. “The Centre wants to start UID for cows. They have lost it. Are goats and fish next? They should give fodder to cows instead of Aadhaar card. This is ridiculous,” said Banerjee.
Instead of working for development, BJP is busy carrying out propaganda on social media. “They want the country to be divided on religious grounds. They do not have any agenda for development. They want country divided on petty issues to avoid actual issues to be addressed like employment, sanitation, education,” CM said.
Chakchaka will be developed as an industrial hub. “Small scale industries will be set up so that employment is generated. Around 80 lakhs eggs will be produced in Bengal. Monetary assistance would be provided to those who want to start business. Cold Storage, jute industry are some of the lucrative business that can arrest the evil of unemployment,” said Banerjee.
