Bengal Polls: EC Tightens Grip On ‘Influential’ Madan

Kolkata: Tightening grip around Madan Mitra, former transport minister and TMC candidate from Kamarhati, the Election Commission on Friday imposed fresh sanction on Mitra’s movements.

Former Minister Madan Mitra will not be able to communicate with anyone except his family members, as directed by the Election Commission, on Friday.

Former Minister Madan Mitra continues to be under strict surveillance of the Election Commission. He will not be able to use any mobile phone and he will not be allowed to meet anyone except his family members.

Complaint was lodged against him by CPM on Thursday with the EC. Congress candidate Deepa Dasmunshi  from Bhawanipore constituency had filed a complaint on Thursday. She said that Madan Mitra must be kept under strict surveillance or else he might operate the complete polling process from his bed at SSKM on April 30. He can create a complete chaos on Saturday in the polling  booths.

April 30 marks as the phase 5 of the crucial Bengal Assenbly polls. Madan Mitra was admitted to SSKM after a team of doctors prescribed him to be shifted. He complained of chest pain, fever and breathing problems.

The opposition , from the beginning, claimed that Madan Mitra was not ill and it was his plan to get shifted to SSKM so that he could manipulate the entire voting process.

The BJP also filed a complaint against him on Friday on the same issue which was brought into limelight by Deepa Dasmunsi.
