Kolkata: Various departments of the Bengal Government are participating in a major way in the World Food India Festival, to be held in New Delhi from November 3 to 5.
Not just other states, but 121 countries, including France, Germany, Britain, USA, China, Japan, Poland, Switzerland and others are participating. Naturally, the festival presents a big opportunity for the state to showcase its best food products to the whole world.
On November 4, representatives of different departments of the State Government are also planning to meet potential foreign investors, as part of the food festival.
The departments of the State Government taking part are Agriculture, Agriculture Marketing, Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Panchayat and Rural Development. They would be displaying and selling the best of the best from Bengal.
In recent years, the state’s fish, vegetables and fruits have gained a name for themselves in terms of quality in not only the country, but internationally too. Hence, the State Government plans to use the festival as a platform to display its best products to gain access to more national and international markets.
The Fisheries Department would showcase hilsa, tangra, parshe, koi, changes, bhetki, panga, bagda and apple snail, and also varieties of shutki (sun-dried fish). Processed products like prawn pickle and fish sweet and sour pickle would also be displayed.
The Animal Husbandry Department would display meat products made from black Bengal goat (which is especially popular), koel, turkey, duck, pork and lamb. Basically, the products sold by Haringhata Farm would be sold. The department is also planning to popularise the work being done by the three bull centres set up for artificial insemination in Beldanga, Haringhata and Salboni.
The Food Processing Department is taking along mango and litchi from Malda and Murshidabad districts, pineapple jam from Siliguri, jelly, pickles and other items.
The Panchayat and Rural Development Department would display products made by the various self-help groups (SHG) which are aided through the Anandadhara Scheme, which is administered by the department. The products are goyna bori from Tamluk, morabba from Suri, biuli dal, black moong dal, papad, etc.
