Kolkata: Protesting the attack on Congress workers in Chopra of North Dinajpur, West Bengal Pradesh Congress top-brass will go to Islampur on November 17.
The executive president of Congress Shankar Malakar said that, Somen Mitra will join the programme along with Pradip Bhattacharyya, Abdul Mannan, Dipa Dasmunshi and others. The PCC president has demanded significant punishment in this incident.
The Congress worker died on Sunday as a result of clashes between TMC and Congress workers at Lakshmipur area in North Dinajpur’s Chopra. According to police, the deceased Congress worker has been identified as Mohammad Samiruddin, resident of Lakshmipur itself.
As per allegations, several TMC workers beat the Congress worker while he was on his way to Ramganj’s bazar from Lakshmipur. It has also been alleged that the TMC men used sharp weapons to beat him. The other Congress worker rushed to the area.
Soon after this, quarrel began between the two groups which led to a brawl. After this, the TMC workers allegedly shot at the Congress workers in which Mohammad was injured. He was rushed to the Islampur sub-divisional hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. A huge police force have been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
In a protest, Somen Mitra said that, people have to unite against the political assassination. We demand symbolic punishment of those who are involved in such incident.
