Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Condoles Loss Of Lives In Indonesian Tsunami


Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday night has expressed her sorrow over the loss of lives and demolition in engulfing Tsunami in Indonesia.

She took to Twitter and stated that, “Deeply saddened by the loss of many lives by the devastating tsunami in Indonesia. My condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. In this difficult time our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Indonesia.”

The catastrophe has killed 222 people, while 843 others were injured and 28 people missing, media reports quoted Indonesia’s national disaster agency. The number is expected to increase with time.

The disaster management agency said that high seas as a result of the full moon may also have contributed to the strength of the waves.

Footage shared on social media showed a large wave crashing into a tent in the resort, in which a popular Indonesian rock band, Seventeen, was performing.
