Barrackpore Flyover Getting ‘New Look’


Barrackpore: The renovation work of the Barrackpore flyover have started.The locals of the area demanded a flyover that could connect Barrackpore Lalkuthi and Barasat.

During the CPM rule the foundation stone was laid three times, but the work for building the flyover never started. But after coming to power in the state, Barrakpore municipality was working rapidly with the help of this flyover.

On 8th April 2013,the flyover was inaugurated by then State PWD minister Sundar Ghodastidar, Food Minister Jyotipriya Mallick and MP Dinesh Trivedi after its completion.Later, the color of the flyover started fading. Hence, decision was taken by the Barrackpore municipality for it’s renovation.The flyover is all set to be decked up in new blue-white, even the lamp posts are also getting new look.New LED blue-white lights are also used to give the flyover a modern look.

Barrackpore, municipality chairman Uttam Das, said, “We are always trying to make our city more beautiful and decorated.The color of the flyover got faded.And it was looking bad so we decided to colour the flyover and give it a new look. This will increase the beauty of Barrackpore and the area close to the river Ganga which is not very far away from the main city of Kolkata.It will also attract the mass.”
