East Bardhaman: First Additional District and Sessions Judge of Bardhaman Sheikh Mohammad Reza has issued summoning order to Bardhaman District Magistrate to be present in court on Monday.
Reportedly, land acquisition took place years ago but many people who have given land did not get their money. Anurag Srivastav, District Magistrate will be present on Monday and sent to civil custody in Bardhaman. Strong action will be taken against him if he does not attend the court order. Lawyers said this is rare and first time court has pronounced such order which sparked agitation among the people.
Lawyer Ranajit Ganguly said, I am practicing law for last 50 years but did not hear such pronunciation. Previously, many government belongings have been seoized but no tace of such verdict where DM could be sent to custody.
Land-Owner lawyer Rajkumar Gupta said that, if High Court do not intervene then no stay on the order and DM hass to go to jail. Allegedly, government is not giving the money to the land owners.
The court said, government secured land in 2005-2006. The land owners have filed case to get the extended money. As per the court version, total amount of debt is 1 crore 34 lakh 886 rupees. Annual Interest will be applied of 15% till they meet their commitment. Anurag Srivastav said, I did not get any court order. If something comes i’ll see the matter and take legal action.
