Bank Gutted In New Market Fire


Kolkata: A massive fire broke out on Sunday at United Bank of India ,New Market Branch.

The intensity of the fire was such that initially the 4 fire engines which were pressed into service failed to douse the flames. Two more engines were pressed into service and it took atleast 3 hours to bring the situation under complete control.

As a result of the fire, a ceiling of the bank collapsed injuring 2 fire engine officials. Huge smokes were being emitted from the fire due to which the fire officials had to use oxygen masks to reach the source of the fire. They had to cut the bank’s shutter and then entered the bank to douse the flames.

The surrounding area was completely evacuated as it was suspected that the fire might spread. The fire officials are yet to release a statement on the cause of the fire. No casualties have been reported. But it is being suspected that huge amount of bank documents were destroyed in the fire.
