Bangladesh Plane Suspected ‘Hijacker’ Dead


Dhaka: The Bangladesh Army held a press conference and informed that the suspect who had hijacked the Biman Bangladesh flight is dead. He wanted to speak to the Prime Minister to discuss about his problems with his wife.

The Army hold the conference at 9 in the night. The Army informed that the suspect Sagar was first injured in the incident. Later on, he died.

The suspect was arrested. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Mafidur Rahman, who participated in the operations, told reporters about the development at the airport around 7:45 pm on Sunday. The suspect had wanted to talk to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh Air Force official said. All the passengers and crew members were unharmed, he added.

Attempt to hijack a Bangladesh Biman International flight going from Dhaka to Dubai via Chittagong was foiled. There were 147 passengers including five crew members onboard. The plane was stranded at Chittagong international airport. According to media reports, all passengers managed to leave the aeroplane safely. Heavily armed security personnel guarded the plane.

Bangladeshi media reported that gunshots were heard from inside the plane. The plane did an emergency landing at the airport around 5.40PM Bangladesh time. All passengers were then evacuated from the Boeing-737 plane, says PRO of airlines. RAB entered the plane and they tried to nab the hijackers.

Biman Station Manager at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat Mahfuzul Alam said the plane was hijacked, but could not provide any additional details then. “The flight has been hijacked,” he said. “I cannot say anything more at the moment.”
