Bangladesh Officially Recognises Kosovo As Independent State


Dhaka: Bangladesh cabinet in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday recognised the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, in turn becoming the 114th country to do so.

So far 113 countries including the United States, UK, France and 36 Organisation of Islamic Corporation (OIC) countries out of 57 have recognised the republic.

Kosovo was a disputed territory in South eastern Europe for a long time which declared freedom from Serbia in February 2008 as the Republic of Kosovo.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam, said that the foreign ministry will soon issue a formal statement in this regard.
