Kolkata: The city has come to a standstill since Wednesday morning in the 24 hour nationwide General strike called by the ten trade unions. The Left Front activists and the Trinamool Congress supporters clashed at various places in the city while trying to implement the Bandh and taking out rallies in favour of the Bandh. They Bandh supporters also clashed with police.
The Bandh supporters clashed with police at Karunamoyee after a rally was stopped by the Police. 23 protesters were arrested. The rally was being led by CPi(M) supporter Ramala Chakraborty. It was alleged that many protestors were forcefully taken to police van.
CITU and INTTUC supporters clashed with each other in Taratala over supporting the Bandh.
Bandh supporters clashed with TMC workers at 8 B bus stand in Jadavpur. The left supporters were picketing at various places of the bus stand. Police also made all security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. The TMC supports attacked the CPI(M) supporters. Both sides attacked in other. Huge contingent of police force arrived in the area and brought the situation under control.
A CPI(M) rally favouring the Bandh was attacked at Garia Station. CPI (M) supporters alleged that TMC was behind the attack. One CPI(M) supporter was injured in the process.
Police and SUCI supporters clashed at Esplanade. Shortly the roads of the Esplanade turned into a battle field between the Bandh supporters and the police. Several Bandh supporters were arrested by police.
CPI(M) supporters blocked the Jessore Road and clashed with the police. Tension spread in the area following the incident. Police changed the routes of the buses to tackle the situation.
CPI(M) Party office was ransacked. Bricks were hurled at the party office. The TMC goons have been accused in the case. CPI(M) alleged that the attack took place in the middle of the night. Police refused to lodge complaint in the beginning and arrived at the spot after a long time.
