Kolkata: Reacting to the heinous incident of chopping of the toddler’s finger at the Balurghat Hospital, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has said that the guilty nurse should be sent off from her services. Just a mere suspension will not be applicable in this case. She termed the incident as ‘nonsense’ and considered the negligence as a grave one. She even went on to say that such incidents can never be pardoned by the authorities and have directed them to take strong measures on the nurse. She had even asked the authorities to reconsider or relay the rules if required for punishing the nurse. Meanwhile, the toddler is being brought to SSKM hospital for further treatment.
In a shocking incident on Monday, a nurse in Balurghat hospital accidentally chopped off the finger of an infant on Sunday night. She later dumped the finger in the dustbin to hide the incident. As per reports, the child was admitted with diarrhea in the hospital. The nurse while cutting a drip bandage accidentally sliced the child’s thumb and fled the spot. The child’s relative later found a gushing wound spewing blood and a missing thumb on the same night ad reported the matter.
After the incident came to light, the relatives of the child staged protest in the hospital demanding action against the nurse. The protest was withdrawn after the hospital authorities assured them of appropriate action.The child has been sent to Siliguri Medical College on Sunday night, where surgery will be conducted to reattach the severed finger.
