Kolkata: A week after mayor Sovan Chatterjee was divested of his environment portfolio, political science professor Baisakhi Banerjee on Friday resigned from her membership of the East Kolkata Wetland Management Authority (EKWMA) and State Level Wetland Management Authority (SLWMA).
Banerjee sent her resignation to Chatterjee’s successor Subhendu Adhikari, who is also the chairperson of EKWMA.
Banerjee said, “I was appointed to both the bodies by the former minister in charge a year and a half ago. Every minister has the right to appoint his own team so that they can assist him. Therefore, I felt I should not remain a stumbling block should the new minister want to nominate someone else.”
In her resignation letter, Banerjee also wrote, “… I appreciate that you will want to have your new team to assist you. I hereby tender my resignation from the above mentioned committees with immediate effect.”
