Kolkata: After the horrific incident of the Majerhaat bridge collapse yet another major incident of fire has again spread panic across the city. The massive fire that has spread in the city’s oldest trade hub Bagri market at 2.45am on Sunday. This incident has created another traffic snarl in the city. Several busy roads connecting to central and north Kolkata are closed for the on going rescue operation in the Bagri market.
The Kolkata Police traffic department has given updates of the latest traffic situation in the city streets for the convenience of the common man. It has been informed that streets between MG Road to Poddar Court and Rabindra Sarani will remain closed from Sunday morning.Beside this, no movement of vehicles has been noticed in between Caning Street to Brabourne Road and Rabindra Sarani.
Nearly thirty fire tenders couldn’t control the fire from spreading.It’s been eight hours and the, fire control operation is on process. The inferno has meanwhile engulfed the entire building as the area is crowded so the fire extinguishing operation is delayed , fire officials had to take precautions before putting a control over the fire. Hydraulic ladders were brought in to reach the six-storey market but as the building is cracked from all the side so the officials are unable to use it.
On Sunday around 2.45 am fire broke out in the Bagri market. After several hours of fire extinguishing operation, the fire did not come under control. Occasionally small explosion sounds were also reported inside the market. Local residents said that there was some inflammable substances inside the market due to which the fire spread quickly. The intensity of the fire was so much that the area was soon covered into dark smokes There were at least 1300-1400 shops that have burnt down.
