Bagan breaks the Derby myth,avenges Fed Cup defeat against Salgaocar


Kolkata: The wound of Federation Cup gets healed at Barasat stadium on Good Friday. Based on Denson Devadas Katsumi Yusa and Sony Norde’s goal, Sanjoy Sen’s boys maintained their pole position at the I League. Under flood lights, the Barasat Stadium was jam packed on Friday. Infront of a houseful stadium, the Bagan boys did not let down the spectators.

Although the first half ended goalless, Sanjoy Sen started playing pressing football from the beginning of the second half. From a Sony Norde centre, Denson Devadas did not make any mistake of heading the ball past Subrata Paul. But Mohun Bagan could not hold on to the lead for long. Salgaocar’s Augustine Fernandes equalized for them. But in the 68th minute, Katsumi made no mistake from scoring the second goal for Bagan. Then came the real magic from the Haitian forward Sony Norde. His bullet shot from outside the box caught Subrata Paul napping and MB got their insurance goal. Barasat saw one of the best goals of I League from Sony. He was even adjudged the Hero of the Match.

By the virtue of this win Mohun Bagan retained their top spot at the points table by gathering 24 points after playing 10 matches. Mohun Bagan even broke the  Derby myth on Friday. According to the myth, after winning the Derby, the team does not play well in the very next match.  By defeating Salgaocar in this match, Bagan had risen over the famous Derby myth of Kolkata Maidan.
