Kolkata: Auto Services have been halted on Karunamoyee-Ultadanga rouute on Sunday as the auto drivers plying on the route went on a strike. The drivers were protesting an order which barred the auto-rickshaws from parking within 100 meter from the Karunamoyee crossing.
Bishu Sardar, an auto driver on the road said that a massive protest will be held on Monday demanding the withdrawal of the order. He also said that no parking space or stand has been provided by the police or the municipality and hence they were forced to park haphazardly on the road.
A traffic cop monitoring traffic from a kiosk said that they have order to clear the space where the autos used to park earlier. On asking where the autos will park now, he said reluctantly “anywhere but not here.”
Incidentally, the order came after an auto rammed into the vehicle of DC traffic Bidhannagar police on Friday. It is speculated that the order was the fallout of the incident.
