Update: Another passenger succumbs to his injuries at the hospital.
Kolkata: In a tragic bus-auto accident on Tuesday, the driver of the auto was killed after a collision between both the vehicles took place at Kolkata’s City Centre 1.
The auto driver died in the accident at City Centre island today morning due to the accident, which also injured the 4 passengers who were boarded in the auto. The condition of 2 of the passengers is stated to be ‘critical’. The incident took place at 9 in the morning.
As per sources, this tragic accident was the result of the Karunamoyee-Ultadanga route auto trying to compete with the New Town to Ultadanga bound bus (bus route 215A) in an attempt to overtake it. The witness said that the driver was driving his auto at great speed, due to which he failed to keep balance and eventually lost its control. It lost control and rammed into the moving bus and overturned.
The driver, along with the other injured passengers was rushed to the Bidhannagar Sub-divisional hospital. The driver succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital.
Auto menace has increased in the city recently. A similar accident took place on September 16 where the auto rammed into a bus at Khanna, resulting into a college student’s death. Puja Paul, a student of the Jaipuria College and a resident of Beleghata, lost her life due to this mishap. The auto driver was accused of speeding his auto with all his passengers. It lost control at the Raja Dinendra Street and Gouribari crossing and hit the rear door of a Howrah-Barasat route bus (bus route L238). Witnesses alleged that the driver broke the signal. Few days later, the driver of the auto succumbed to his injuries and died too.
