Adelaide: Electing to bat against Australia in the third quarterfinal of the ICC Cricket World Cup in Adelaide on Friday, Pakistan set a target of 214. Pakistani were all out for 213 in 49.5 overs by the host Australia. In the reply the Aussies cruised along the modest total with utmost ease by losing 4 wickets onlyWhile Australia have been a hard team to beat, having lost only match, and even there by just one wicket, Pakistan had to bowl out their skins to seal the semis berth. But riding on Watson’s 64 and Maxwell’s 44, Australia set up their date with India at Sydney in the semis. Harish Sohail top scored for Pak with 41 runs and Hazzelewood took 4 wickets to restrict Misbah’s team to a total of 213.
Steven Smith top scored for Australia with 65 runs but Hazzelewood was adjudged Man Of the Match for his 4 wickets. The result could have been somewhat different if Pakistan could hold on to the catches at the deep. At the fading end of the match, Pak pace bowler Wahab Riyaz got himself engaged in a verbal spat with Shane Watson. But it was Watson who had the last laugh as his cover drive sealed the semis berth for the Kangaroos.
