Melbourne: Josh Hazlewood, the Australian speedstar has been ruled out of the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League, Cricket Australia announced on Thursday. Hazlewood, who was retained by Mumbai Indians this IPL season, had a fairly successful run with the ball in the 2015 World Cup, picking up seven wickets from five matches he played, at an impressive economy of 4.10. Hazlewood, who has played three Tests, 13 One-Day Internationals and four Twenty20 Internationals so far, was picked in the squad for the two-Test series in West Indies and the Ashes in England.
“Josh’s workload has changed significantly since he first began attending the IPL,” said Pat Howard, CA’s general manager of team performance. “The IPL is the players’ leave period and in Josh’s case it was deemed that not playing was the best use of that time in the lead up to a busy winter.”This was agreed to with the IPL following discussions at the end of the Test series.”
Mumbai are yet to announce a replacement. However, the franchise has plenty of seam bowling options in Lasith Malinga, Marchant de Lange, Corey Anderson, Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, Abhimanyu Mithun and R Vinay Kumar.
