Mumbai: Janhavi Gadkar who rammed her Audi in a Taxi killing two people in Mumbai on June 8, was denied bail by a Kurla Magistrate on Friday. She will continue to remain in jail and her lawyers will challenge the refusal in a higher court.
The court had completed the hearing of the bail plea on Thursday where senior counsel Amit Desai made a strong fervent plea, on both legal and emotional grounds.
He had started the two hour long hearing by telling magistrate Richa Khedekar that, “no amount of regret will bring back those who have gone, but Janhavi I dare say may right now be sitting on her jail floor wondering desperately if she could turn back the clock.”
Janhavi is charged with slamming her Audi SUV into a taxi, killing driver Sayyed Hussain, 57, and Salim Sabuwala, 50, while speeding against the traffic. Her blood alcohol content was several times over the legal limit, said a preliminary report.
