Attempt To Hijack Plane Foiled, Suspect Arrested


Update: The suspect has now been arrested. Air Vice Marshal Muhammad Mafidur Rahman, who participated in the operations, told reporters about the development at the airport around 7:45 pm on Sunday. The suspect had wanted to talk to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Bangladesh Air Force official said. All the passengers and crew members were unharmed, he added.

Dhaka: Attempt to hijack a Bangladesh Biman International flight going from Dhaka to Dubai via Chittagong has been foiled. There were 147 passengers including five crew members onboard. The plane is currently stranded at Chittagong international airport. According to media reports, all passengers have managed to leave the aeroplane safely. However, hijackers who tried to enter the cockpit are still inside the plane. Heavily armed security personnel are guarding the plane.

Bangladeshi media is reporting that gunshots have been heard from inside the plane. Two crew members are still inside the plane, according to unconfirmed reports. The plane did an emergency landing at the airport around 5.40PM Bangladesh time. All passengers were then evacuated from the Boeing-737 plane, says PRO of airlines. RAB has entered the plane and they are trying to nab the hijackers.

Biman Station Manager at Chattogram’s Shah Amanat Mahfuzul Alam said the plane has been hijacked, but could not provide any additional details. “The flight has been hijacked,” he said. “I cannot say anything more at the moment.”
