Kolkata: Although clearly caught on camera intimidating journalists during the civic polls in Bidhan Nagar on Saturday, Trinamool Congress MLA Sujit Bose on Sunday pleaded innocence and said he regretted the unfortunate incidents.
Almost 24 hours after the heinous assault on media persons, Sujit went to a private hospital in Kolkata’s Salt Lake area to meet the injured journalists who bore the brunt of alleged Trinamool hooliganism.
Answering the media, Sujit said that he went to control the violence and had no hands in the violence; however, his statement raised eye brows as by ‘regretting’ critics say he unconsciously accepted his involvement.
It is to be noted that at least 17 journalists were brutally thrashed allegedly by Trinamool anti-social elements while covering the Bidhan Nagar, Salt Lake polls on Saturday.
While chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern and ordered a probe in the incident, not a single culprit has been arrested despite openly tagged in the media footages.
On the other hand Congress workers staged a road blockade at Belgachia area demanding strict punishment to the people responsible for attack on media personnel.
