Assam NRC: Filing Of Claims, Objections From Sept 25


New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that the process of filing of claims
and objections for inclusion in the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) will
start from September 25 and will last for 60 days.

The following ten documents will the basis on which the claims can be filed:

1. Records/processes pertaining to court up to March 24, 1971 (midnight) provided
they are part of a processing in a judicial or revenue court.

2. Passport issued by the Government of India up to March 24, 1971 (midnight)

3. Life Insurance Corporation of India Insurance Policy (LICI) of relevant period up
to March 24, 1971 (midnight)

4. Any licence/certificate issued by any government authority of relevant period
i.e. up to March 24, 1971 (midnight)

5. Bank/Post Office Accounts of relevant period i.e. up to March 24, 1971

6. Permanent Residential Certificate issued from outside the State up to March 24,
1971 (midnight)

7. Birth certificates issued by the competent authority up to March 24, 1971

8. Land documents like Registered Sale Deed, Records of land rights up to March 24,
1971 (midnight)

9. Educational certificate issued by Board/Universities up to March 24, 1971

10. Document showing service/employment under Government/Public Sector undertaking
up to March 24, 1971 (midnight)

On the last date of hearing, NRC co-odinator Parteek Hajela recommended that out of
the 15 documents enumerated in List A of the report, only 10 will be accepted as
valid documents to prove and establish legacy. The next hearing is on October 23.
