Update: Assam Inspector general of Police (IGP, Law and Order) S.N. Singh ruled out ruled out an improvised explosive device (IED) or grenade blast at Fancy Bazar area here on Saturday evening, in which at least three people were reported to have sustained injuries.
Security forces thronged the spot and are examining the nature of the blasts.
Guwahati: Suffering from decades old insurgency the northeastern state of Assam has been again jolted by serial blasts as two powerful blasts jolted capital Guwahati’s Fancy Bazaar area on Saturday. Two people have suffered splinter injuries, said officials. One of the injured has been identified as Priyo Kalita.
The bombs as per reported were planted in dustbins. Although no reports of any casualty has been reported so far authorities are fearing toll as the bombs ripped through the busy market bristling with crowed.
Bomb squad along with a huge contingent of police force rushed to the spot. The blast are suspected to have been carried out by anti-talk faction of militant outfit ULFA (I) headed by Paresh Baruah, said police. The balst were targeted at the Hindi speaking community of the state, said officials.
The militant outfit had orchestrated targeted killing against the Hindi speaking community in the state in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts earlier.
