Jodhpur: In a major blow to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, a court in Jodhpur convicted the actor on Thursday in the 20-year old blackbuck poaching case. Other accused in the case – actors Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari were acquitted.
Salman has been sent to five years of imprisonment and has been taken in to custody. The actor Khan will now be taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail, where rape accused Asaram Bapu has also been lodged.
Self-styled godman Asaram has been in Jodhpur Central Jail since his arrest on August 3, 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl.
Another ‘infamous’ inmate of the Jodhpur Central Jail is Shambhulal Regar, who was arrested for hacking a Muslim man and setting him on fire – an act which he recorded on camera. He recently put out a hateful video from inside the jail where he claimed a threat to his life, in an incident which pointed out the lacuna in the security of the jail.
Salman will be taken to the Jodhpur Central Jail on Thursday itself. Salman Khan, 52, has been charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act of the Indian Penal Code. The maximum punishment under Section 51 is six years.
