Prime accused Sambiya Sohrab was arrested two days later from Beckbagan area in Kolkata and remanded to 14 days of police custody. His two friends Johny and Shanu alias Shawnawaz Khan, who is the grandson of Bowbazar blast convict Rashid Khan, were also arrested.

Sambiya’s friend Johnny and Sanu have also stated that Sambiya has rammed the Audi into the parade and killed Abhimanyu.

The army which is also conducting a parallel probe on the incident has alleged that Sambiya was driving the killer Audi but interestingly Kolkata police in its chargesheet omitted the fact, claimed by many as a move to shield the accused owing to his families affiliation with the ruling Trinamool party.

Interestingly the police which adopted a sloth like approach into the incident sprang on its feet and arrested Sambiya hours after TMC disowned Mohammad Sohrab. It has also been alleged that a ruling party leader and top police official of Kolkata police facilitated the escape of Sohrab family.
