Kolkata and Darjeeling: In connection to the murder case of Madan Tamang, the City Sessions Court on Saturday issued an order for arrest warrants against the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung and 22 other suspects. The CBI lawyer Arun Bhagat said that they had prayed before the court to issue the order of arrest against the 23 suspects related to the murder case of Madan Tamang. Sources in GJM have revealed that the 23 accused are likely to move in the higher court for anticipatory bail.
Gorkha leader Madan Tamang was hacked to death at Upper Club Side in the heart of Darjeeling town on May 21, 2010 while overseeing preparations for a public meeting.
On May 29, the CBI had filed a chargesheet against the Morcha chief Gurung, his wife, sitting MLA from Kalimpong, Harkabahadur Chhetry and 20 others in connection with the alleged murder of Tamang, President of Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League in 2010. Besides Gurung, CBI also filed a chargesheet against the then office bearers of GJM – assistant general secretary Binoy Tamang, vice president Pradeep Pradhan and general secretary Roshan Giri. Two others, Devendra Sharma and Dinesh Theeng have also been named in the CBI chargesheet.
