Army Chief to take stock of situation after Chandel ambush


Manipur:Army Chief General Dalbir Singh on Friday reached Manipur’s capital Imphal to assess the situation in the state after an army convoy was attacked in Chandel district yesterday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee severely condemn militant attack on Army convoy in Manipur.

Coordinated Joint counter insurgency operations launched in Manipur in the aftermath of yesterday’s militant attack , borders with Myanmar sealed to nab the culprits. The ambush occurred at around 8.30 AM when convoy of 6 Dogra Regiment was on its way to Imphal from Motul on a road opening patrol as part of their daily routine, about 80 km from Imphal. 

A reinforcement party of the security forces was rushed to the spot for combing operation to nab the militants while more details are awaited. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has condemned the attack in Manipur in strong words. He tweeted “today’s mindless attack in Manipur is very distressing. 

I bow to each and every soldier who has sacrificed his life for the Nation.” Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has condemned the attack on Army personnel in Manipur.  Manohar Parrikar assured that those who committed the cowardly act will be brought to book.  He said, Army will continue to work towards bringing peace and normalcy in Manipur. He also conveyed his deepest condolence to bereaved families of the brave Army men who lost their lives.
