Apurvi, Ayonika Out Of Women’s 10m Air Rifle Event


Rio De Janeiro: India’s challenge in the women’s 10m air rifle at the Rio Olympics ended on the first day with shooters Ayonika Paul and Apurvi Chandela failing to qualify for the final round of the event on Saturday.

Apurvi was placed in the 34th position with a combined score of 411.6 while Ayonika was 43rd with 407 among 53 shooters at the Olympic Shooting Centre.

Li Du of China created an Olympic record in the competition, notching up a score of 420.7 to finish at the top in qualification round. Germany’s Barbara Engleder took the second spot with 420.3 while Iran’s Elaheh Ahmadi was third with 417.8

Apart from the top three, a Russian, two Americans, a Croatian and another Chinese shooter completed the top eight line-up.
