Kolkata: A good initiative has been taken up for the West Bengal Youths by the State Govt. The State Government has taken up a project named Apat Mitra for providing training to youth in villages so that they can voluntarily support rescue operations at the time of any disaster.
The project has been started in South 24-Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts as pilot projects. Two hundred youths are undergoing training in each of these districts.
The project will be implemented in all the districts. During an emergency, for carrying out a rescue operation, it is often found that support of local people is needed, besides the personnel of the Disaster Management Department and Fire and Emergency Services Department.
Area-specific training will be provided to volunteers, as the state has a diverse landscape with hills in the extreme north, sea in the south and forests in the western part. So, local youth will get trained as per the requirement in their respective areas.
