Aparna sen turns 70


kolkata: Aparna Sen, an Indian filmmaker, screenwriter and actress is now 70. Sen was born on  25 October 1945. She is mainly known for her work in Bengali cinema. A leading actress of late 1960s,1970s She went behind the camera in early 80s. Aparna sen received eight “BFJA Award”, five for best actress,two for best supporting actress and one for lifetime achievement award. She is the winner of three National Film Awards and nine international film festival awards for her direction in films. She was awarded the “Padma Shri‘,the fourth highest civilian award,by the government of India in 1987.

Aparna Sen was born in Calcutta to a Bengali family, originally from Jessore District, Bangladesh. Her father is the veteran critic and filmmaker Chidananda Dasgupta. Her mother Supriya Dasgupta was a prominent costume designer and Supriya is the cousin of renowned Bengali poet Jibanananda Das. on the othehand  She is an alumnus of Presidency College.
Aparna made her debute in Satyajit roy directed “Teen Kanya” in the year 1961. On the otherhand Sen made her debut as a film director with 36 Chowringhee Lane in the year 1981.
Aprna acted with popular heroes like Uttamkumar, Soumitra Chatterjee, Victor banerjee, Ranjit Mallick in the bengali films. She also acted in hindi films with Dilipkumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Satrughan Sinha. Besides Satyjit Roy She worked under wellknown directors like Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha and Rishikesh Mukherjee, Rituparno Ghosh.
