Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap took a rather sly dig at Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee after they offered to resign from their respective parties due to defeat at Lok Sabha Elections 2019. However, their parties rejected it.
Known as someone who does not mince words, Kashyap wrote, “Mamta didi wanted to resign but party rejected offer. Rahul Gandhi wanted to resign but party rejected the offer. We wanted to act dumb and believe it but our intelligence rejected it..P.S. I didn’t want to tweet this but twiterrati rejected my intention.”
On May 23, the Bharatiya Janata Party had a gigantic triumph as they won more than 300 seats in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019. The Congress suffered a crushing defeat and to make matters worse, Rahul Gandhi lost the stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, which was the constituency that had been held by his family for four decades. He offered his resignation, but the top leaders of the party did not let him do so.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee was also expected to resign two days after the election results that left the Trinamool Congress with 22 seats in West Bengal, 12 down from the last one. However, members of the party rejected her resignation as well.
Unlike other celebrities who hesitate to voice their political opinions on Twitter, Anurag Kashyap has always expressed his opinions clearly. In fact, just after the landslide victory of the BJP, Kashyap tweeted to PM Narendra Modi and asked him to do something about the trolls who were sending rape threats to his daughter.
