Srinagar: Tension prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir summer capital Srinagar after a large group of separatists’ led by Masarat Alam, wave Pakistani flags to greet All India Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on his arrival in Srinagar from Delhi on Wednesday.
Separatist leader Masarat Alam who was recently released was present while several youngsters waved Pakistani flags and shouted anti-India slogans.
Alam was the mastermind behind the 2010 protests and stone-pelting incidents in which over 100 people lost their lives. He was later arrested on the orders of the then Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah.
Masarat Alam has been freed by the Mufti led PDP-BJP coalition government in the valley last month. PDP on the other hand refused to take any tough stand on Alam over raising Pak flag in Srinagar.
BJP on the other hand demanded strict action against Masarat Alam. “India does not agree with his (Alam) stand of waving Pakistan’s flag in India. We want action against Masarat Alam as soon as possible. We are hopeful that state government will take action as per the law,” said spokesperson Sambit Patra.
