Kolkata: The West Bengal CID on Friday arrested Assistance Sub-Inspector Debasish Das for alleged involvement in an extortion case in West Midnapore district, a senior CID official said. He was arrested after Marathon interrogation at Bhavani Bhavan.
According to CID sources, Debasish Das was also Chief Transport Officer in Jhargram in Bharati’s era. He was close aide of Bharati ghosh and he had important role to play to buy gold instead of demonetised notes.
DIG CID Nisad Parvez said ‘other accused in the case was told the name of Debasish Das. We have enough evidence against him.’ Earlier, The West Bengal CID arrested a state police officer for alleged involvement in an extortion case in West Midnapore district, a senior CID official said.
“The CID team arrested sub-inspector Rajsekhar Pyne of West Midnapore district in connection with a complaint relating to misappropriation of Rs 45 lakh from a local businessman named Eunus Ali,” Deputy Inspector General, CID, Nishad Parvez said in a release.
According to sources close to CID, raids were conducted in the house of the officer for the last few days and a large amount of unaccounted cash was seized.
