Siliguri: Few days after the Majherjat bridge incident in Kolkata, a bridge at Samarnagar in Siliguri collapsed on Monday due to heavy rain fall.

Sources said the middle portion of the under-construction bridge collapsed into a river Panchay due to heavy rainfall. Locals said that the construction of bridge started two years ago.

Municipality authorities reached the spot to monitoring the situation. Earloier, a bridge in Phansidewa near Siliguri collapsed, injuring a truck driver.

Sources said the middle portion of the bridge collapsed into a canal while a truck was passing through it, trapping the vehicle. The driver was rescued and taken to a primary health centre by local residents.
