New Delhi: Social activist Anna Hazare on Thursday ended his indefinite fast after meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
“The Lokpal issue is still pending. Our chief minister is saying the issue will be solved within six months. The government and the public are not separate entities. It is the duty of the government to do good for the people,” Anna Hazare said after ending his hunger strike.
Hazare had been on a fast from March 23 at Ramlila Ground to demand the appointment of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states, and ensure better production cost for farm produce.
The Maharashtra government further averred that “a committee has been formed for the demand approval of Anna Hazare.”Hazare had earlier said that he would do satyagraha till life left in his body and accused the central government of not allotting space.
Anna Hazare’s 2011 agitation in Delhi had led to the passing of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013, but the centre is yet to appoint a Lokpal.
