Ancient Vishnu Idol Recovered From Bankura’s Pond


Bankura: An ancient idol of lord Vishnu has been recovered at the village of Bankura. The idol recovered from Chamgram of Bankura district. According to sources, A villager named Ramranjan Mukherjee saw some parts of idol at the mud when he was bathing.

According to villager Biswajit Bandhopadhay, this may be the Buddha idol. Joypur BDO Dhrubapada Sandilyo said that we took that idol to the police station. He said that we will contact with archaeologists to know more about the idol.

According to local historian, Jaipur area of Bankura is enriched with many historical things. Here many temples situated build by the Malla kings of Bishnupur. Joypur forest is thickly forest stippled with skyscraping Sal, Palash, Kusum, Mahua, Neem and Teak trees, which does not allow the daring sunlight to touch the bottom at some places.

The Curator of Bishnupur Museum asserted that this idol may be the eleventh or twelfth century. He also said that this is not Buddha idol. It may belongs to lord Vishnu.
